Judge Kenneth C. Stephan stepped down on July 1, 2015, after 18 years with Nebraska Supreme Court. Kevin R. McManaman, Partner at Knudsen Law Firm, was privileged to serve on the Judicial Nominating Commission along with three other esteemed lawyers and four lay citizens. They were tasked with selecting nominations to send to Governor Pete Ricketts for Justice Stephan’s replacement.

Two sitting judges and two private practice lawyers applied for the position. The commission reviewed the applicants and held a public hearing on July 1 selecting three candidates: Judge Stephanie Stacy, a Lancaster County District Court Judge; Amie Martinez, President of the Nebraska Bar Association and a private practice attorney; and Judge Riko Bishop, a current Nebraska Court of Appeals judge.

One of the candidates will soon join five men and one woman on the Nebraska Supreme Court.
