Core Benefits Have High Value

You don’t need a dog-friendly environment or on-site yoga lessons in order to have a positive impact on employee satisfaction.

Glassdoor.com, a website where current and former employees anonymously review companies and their management, conducted a global benefits analysis in 2016. Their findings showed just three basic benefits had a measurable impact on overall employee satisfaction: health insurance, vacation and paid time off and 401(k) retirement plans. The Glassdoor.com findings were supported by the results from the 2016 Society for Human Resource Management (SHRM) Employee Job Satisfaction and Engagement Survey.

When working to improve physical fitness, the advice is to first work on the core. Companies may want to adopt that focus and improve their core benefits first before expanding to other employee perks.
